Market Wrap: April 24, 2026 - Indian Equities Navigate Mixed Cues Amid Geopolitical Tensions & Strong Earnings

End-of-day market summary for 2026-04-24

·2 min read

Indian benchmark indices navigated a day of mixed signals on April 24, 2026, as geopolitical tensions and a tumbling Rupee weighed on broader sentiment, even as robust corporate earnings and positive global cues offered some resilience. The Rupee notably experienced its steepest weekly drop since 2022, primarily triggered by escalating geopolitical tensions and surging crude oil prices, putting pressure on import-dependent sectors.

Amidst this backdrop, market experts recommended buying opportunities in Pharma and Power sectors, while advising caution on IT stocks. This comes as the broader market continues to deal with a recent dip and smallcap volatility, with some smaller stocks plummeting up to 45% year-to-date in CY26. SEBI, meanwhile, has greenlighted four new IPOs across key sectors, indicating a healthy pipeline for the primary market, and its FPI netting move is expected to boost efficiency and attract global capital.

Despite the broader cautiousness, several individual companies delivered strong performances. In the financial space, IndusInd Bank reported a stellar Q4, swinging from a loss to profitability with robust Net Interest Income (NII) growth and declaring a dividend. Shriram Finance also impressed with a 41% jump in Q4 FY26 profit and a 16% rise in NII. Furthermore, Tata Capital outlined ambitious plans for 23-25% loan growth through FY28, driven by AI and retail expansion.

The green energy sector continued its robust trajectory, with Adani Green Energy posting a 34% surge in Q4 profit on strong revenue growth. Hindustan Zinc declared a generous ₹11 interim dividend following robust Q4 FY24 performance, indicating strength in the metals sector. Krystal Integrated Services also defied market downturns with a significant ₹138 crore solar win.

Globally, US market futures surged on US-Iran peace hopes, leading to a dip in crude oil prices and potentially offering a positive spillover. Japan's Nikkei hit an all-time high, driven by tech optimism. However, European shares edged towards a weekly decline due to Middle East tensions and earnings jitters.

Looking ahead, investors will continue to monitor geopolitical developments, crude oil price movements, and the ongoing Q4 earnings season for cues. The dichotomy between value-oriented sectors like Pharma and Power, and the cautioned IT space, along with the resilience of financials and green energy, will likely shape market direction.
